A revision of the deviation "Sigma Revamp" from just over 5 years ago (mc-katanga.deviantart.com/art/…
). I've improved a tad methinks.
So with the release of Halo 5 I've been back on the bandwagon for trashing the new armour designs. So I thought I'd see if I could do any better, and upon realising I actually did an old armour design I decided to revamp that. The design for the armour was actually tougher than you'd think because the original image was only 50x50, meaning I had used pretty deliberate design choices. This led me to upscale from my previous picture to capture the more subtle details of both the MJOLNIR and the Spartan IV aesthetic as a whole. The upscale also came with some design changes to better illustrate how the armour is seen in 3d space, as I thought the original seemed extremely flat in retrospect.
Despite the upscale the colour pallette is exactly the same except for an extra shade of red for the highlights. This worked out super well for the helmet IMO, epsecially the visor, but the shading on the body armour is compatively sparse. I tried to capture the odd undersuit the S-IVs have with blocks of colour across the grey areas. I'm personally a fan of the effect, but I'm sure people will disagee with me there
Design wise I took heavy inspiration from some concept art of Carter's helmet from Halo Reach, as well as the EOD, CIO and Recruit armour renders from around Halo 4's release. This is probably most notable in the body pose, as I heavily referenced that so I could accurately show the armour contours to the best of my ability.
